The 5 Hottest Bathroom Trends for 2020

Bathrooms are becoming the most gorgeous rooms in the home, and – along with the kitchen – the most important room to remodel if you want to add value to your home. In the past three years, we have seen acceleration in trends that contribute to aesthetic beauty, practical functionality, and ease of cleaning. Here are some of the trends we consider to be the hottest, heading into 2020!

Open Walk-In Showers
Open concept walk-in showers, complete with luxurious amenities like integrated benches and storage shelves, ambient lighting, anti-fog mirrors, misting systems, and linear drains are atop many remodeling wish lists. The space can be separated from the tub and vanity areas with a class wall or door. Combination shower/bathtubs are no longer as popular, primarily because they collect dirt and grime.

Freestanding Bathtubs
Standalone tubs have been trending for the past 3-4 years, but now we’re seeing more varieties of shapes, including organic and angular shapes. We’re also seeing more natural materials being used, in addition to classic white porcelain. Depending on the other materials in your bathroom and the rest of your house, you can create an integrated look using marble, stone, and even brass. One of the great benefits, in addition to appearance, is the ease of cleaning compared to an integrated shower/bath.

Terrazzo Tiles for Wall Surfaces, Counters, and Showers
This mixture of marble, cement, and natural stones is showing up in more and more bathroom surfaces, from vanity counters to floors and shower walls. Beautiful and luxurious terrazzo in neutral and light-toned colors is not only hot today, but will likely stand the test of time.

Heated Floors
Frigid bathroom floors in Midwest winters are out, and heated floors that warm and welcome your feet when you wake up are in! Word of mouth seems to be the way that most people decide they just have to have this option. It’s hard to resist friends who say “Once you experience it, you’ll never want a bathroom without one.” There are several types of heated floor technologies that make this possible, and both have come down in cost.

Upscale Powder Rooms
Small spaces can be just as beautiful as larger spaces, and if you’ve got a powder room that guests use, it’s worthwhile to upgrade. Console vanities, toilets integrated into the wall, ambient lighting, floor-to-ceiling tiling, and marble surfaces are all popular options.

We had a wonderful experience with Emily from Modern Kitchen and Baths and the contractors she set up to renovate our kitchen! We had a short amount of time to complete the project, and not only did Emily say it could be completed by the time we needed, but the whole team delivered on that promise. We love our new kitchen and are so thankful for the expertise that Modern Kitchen and Baths provided for us. I would definitely recommend them for anyone needing a kitchen renovation. Thank you!
