5 Simple Ways to Update Your Kitchen for the Holidays

Date: November 15, 2018

2018 feels like it has barely begun, yet here we are, already in the month of November. The holidays are just around the corner and, as you know, there is no place quite like home during the most wonderful time of the year.

For those of us that will be hosting family and friends, much of our time will be spent in what has become the central entertaining hub of the modern home – the kitchen. But your kitchen isn’t up to today’s standards, you say? Don’t worry. There is no need for a full demolition of your kitchen. With a few simple updates, your kitchen can be a warm and welcoming source of pride. We have come up with five simple ways to spruce up your kitchen and be a holiday superhero.

Update Knobs, Handles and Pulls: Today, there are so many styles of cabinet hardware that can complement your household style, décor, and color scheme. Consider using a combination of hexagonal pulls, handles, and knobs. As long as the hardware comes in the same finish and style, the end result is a much more sophisticated look, not to mention better utility for you and all of your guests.

Light Bars: Overhead and under-cabinet lighting comes in hard-wried, plug-in, and even battery operated configurations. There are rectangular light bars that shed light over rectangular areas such as countertops, and round pucks that can spotlight art or a small wine collection. Whether you choose halogen, LED, or traditional incandescent lights, you can find affordable options that add warmth and depth to your kitchen spaces, and make it easier for you to see what you’re doing in the kitchen.

Countertops: Quartz and granite countertops add elegance, and a focal point to your kitchen. They are a functional centerpiece in the kitchen, and a natural draw for your guests when you want them to gather around the kitchen island or counter. With so many available designs and colors, there is a perfect material and style to complement your home, and quality quartz, and granite has become too affordable to put off any longer.

Add a backsplash: For a truly sophisticated and inviting appearance, add a backsplash with tiles of textures and tones that complement your countertops and cabinets. So many do-it-yourself options are on the market today that you can do this project inexpensively, using pre-assembled tile/glass sheets. You could even use wooden or faux stone wall planks if you want a more unique look.

Update the Sink and Faucet: For that final focal point in your kitchen, a faucet and sink with styles, tones, and textures that complement all of the above updates completes your kitchen, making it a room where everyone will want to create beautiful, picture-perfect holiday memories.

We had a wonderful experience with Emily from Modern Kitchen and Baths and the contractors she set up to renovate our kitchen! We had a short amount of time to complete the project, and not only did Emily say it could be completed by the time we needed, but the whole team delivered on that promise. We love our new kitchen and are so thankful for the expertise that Modern Kitchen and Baths provided for us. I would definitely recommend them for anyone needing a kitchen renovation. Thank you!
